Book Cover Poll Results

Well, the results are in:

Just two votes went to option #1, which said “serial killer” to some of us.

Another couple of votes belong to option #2, the man with his eyes closed.

Six votes went to option #3, the concert poster.

To option #4, which I can’t help thinking of as “the nebbish,” went 5.5 votes. Why the half vote? Some of us couldn’t decide between two or more covers, and when that happened, I gave each cover half a vote. Anyway, the nebbish would need some editing to match the narrator of the book, so I’m glad that wasn’t the top pick.

The overwhelming majority preferred #5, the yellow cover I had already chosen. That one got 15.5 votes.

On the one hand, I am relieved. I don’t have to redo my cover. I do worry a little that poll respondents who know the book are predisposed toward the cover I chose because they’ve seen it before, and they know it was my preference—but this is an uncertainty I can live with.
